Five Savory Quinoa Recipes to Try

A couple of weeks ago, we talked about quinoa. It’s a seed we like for its versatility and its ability to replace grains. It’s been gaining popularity for the last few years, but it’s still something many of us don’t have in our kitchen. It can be a little intimidating to cook with new things when we know what we like. There’s always the concern that we’ll spend time and money on a dish that we ultimately don’t enjoy.

Today we wanted to share five great quinoa recipes, the heaviest of which has 25 grams of carbs! We wanted a variety of dishes to help you find something that fits both your diet and tastes!

Baked Broccoli-Cheddar Quinoa Bites

We think this dish is more of an appetizer than a main course. Of course, that depends on your serving size! This is great for a party, and they’re excellent sources of protein. They are a take on crustless quiche, and we’re fans. Two of the bites are 87 calories with eight grams of carbs. Get the recipe.

Low-Carb Quinoa Salad With Herbed Chicken

Part of what we like about this dish is the fact that grilling this chicken might be one of the last chances we have to cook on the barbecue! We’re excited about the cooling weather but never get sick of the grill! Of course, once the weather gets cold, you can always use an electric grill, like a George Foreman. But, those take-up storage room or counter space, and we aren’t huge fans. We also like that this recipe has cooked asparagus in the salad; it makes it more of a fall-salad than one for the summer season. A serving has 359 calories and just over 12 grams of carbs. Veggie-Quinoa Soup

This meal is a bit of a head-scratcher. We’re not sure it should be called soup. It’s jam-packed with delicious chunks of veggies and tons of quinoa, and it makes us question what the broth to solids ratio should be to call something a soup. Whatever you want to call it, it’s tasty. The recipe calls for chicken stock; vegetable stock can be used to make the dish vegetarian, just make sure to keep an eye on the salt content.  A serving has 144 calories and 19 grams of carbs. Cajun Crab and Quinoa Cakes

Sometimes, our team thinks the foods we come in contact with are under seasoned. These crab cakes have a nice flavor, and we like that they aren’t fried! We really like using the quinoa in the role usually played by breadcrumbs or crumbled crackers. It’s a new texture, but it doesn’t change just how great they are! A serving has 327 calories and just over 19 grams of carbs. Get the recipe.

Asian Chicken and Quinoa Salad

We’re fans of Asian chicken salads. Any restaurant has them, the dressing is delicious, match stick carrots are great and the crunchy bits are a perk. They also usually run right around 600 calories and a ton of sugar for a side serving! This salad, with a simple homemade version of the dressing, is 250 calories and 25 grams of carbs per serving.
