Four Amazing Low-carb Burger Buns

Burgers are a staple food of the summer. They are wonderful right off the grill. Ground beef is low-carb, so burgers in and of themselves won’t upset blood sugar. But, burger buns can be loaded with carbohydrates. With the popularity of the keto diet taking off in recent years, it has become easier to find low-carb buns in the supermarket. But, they aren’t always in stock and sometimes we aren’t impressed with their ingredients.

We like cooking from scratch because we know exactly what we are eating. You can make burger buns from fat head pastry. But, if you are looking for something a little less cheese-forward, here are four more excellent options.

These baked buns can be made into whatever shape you like and hold together well, unlike a lot of keto bread. Many keto breads are crumbly. Despite being made from cheddar and parmesan, reviewers say the mix results in a mild-flavored bread perfect for burger buns. They don’t rise much, so don’t expect it to look like a burger bun. A serving has 118.2 calories and just 0.4 grams of carbs. Get the recipe.

Two Minute Burger Bun

The big selling point for this bun is just how quick and easy it is! It is straightforward to make and very tasty. However, we think it needs an extra step. Toasting is a must. In our experience, if you don’t give these buns a minute or two in the toaster oven, they are too crumbly to use as a burger bun. The instructions list it as an optional step to add seeds, but we say you can’t skip it! You should try it for yourself and see what you think. Either way, it will take you well under 10 minutes! A serving has 379 calories, five grams of carbs and two grams of fiber. Get the recipe.

You can leave the greens out of this bun recipe. But, it gives you a veggie kick you might be missing from your plate while eating burgers. You might as well sneak an extra vegetable you won’t taste into your day whenever you have the chance! And the greens help you get fiber into your diet. Plus, it makes your bun look so much more interesting! Each bun has 251 calories, 6.1 grams of carbs and 3.5 grams of fiber. Get the recipe.

Pillowy-Soft Keto Burger Buns

This is by far our most complicated recipe. It uses active yeast, so you have to let the dough proof and rest. But that means it’s also the closest to a regular burger bun. It has a lot of ingredients, some of which are there to feed the yeast. It might not be your first choice of bun if you don’t plan on doing a lot of yeasted low-carb baking to use up the ingredients. However, if you love baking and always stick to low-carb cooking, this is the winner in our minds. Yes, it takes time and effort, but it is worth it, and they can be frozen if you want to bake a double batch. A serving has 262 calories, nine grams of carbs and six grams of fiber. Get the recipe.

We hope that these recipes will put your burgers onto buns this summer and stop you from eating them off lettuce. While we like lettuce wraps, we prefer our burgers on buns, especially at a BBQ! Everyone should be able to kick back and enjoy burgers off the grill without worrying about their blood sugar.
